The deceased were ASI Rudra Pratap, constable Manglu and cameraman of Doordarshan Acchutanand Sahu.Two police personnel and a cameraman of Doordarshan were killed in the ambush.
Raipur: In Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, the Maoists attacked the police force, in which two jawans were killed and a media worker died. Two policemen were injured in the incident. State’s senior police officials said on Tuesday that the Maoists attacked the police force in Aranpur Police Station area under Dantewada district. In this attack, a sub-inspector of Chhattisgarh police, Rudra Pratap Singh and an assistant Rakshak Mangalu became martyred and Delhi’s Doorman cameraman Achyutanand Sahu died. Two police constables Vishnu Netam and assistant Rakesh Rakesh Kaushal were injured. Two other media persons of Doordarshan are safe. Officials said that on Tuesday, police teams had left for motorcycles for Nilavaya village under Aranpur police station area.
“At around 10.25 am, I saw the motorcycle which was heading our group, suddenly fell down. My cameraman who was just behind the first motorcycle was hit by a bullet and he fell down, in front of my eyes. Our motorcycle also lost balance… luckily, I fell in a ditch and crawled deeper,” Kumar recounts.
“For the next 45 minutes, it was pure horror. I kept lying in the ditch and all I heard was the sound of bullets. I felt that around 50 bullets whizzed past, over my head,” said Kumar, who is still at Sameli camp and luckily sustained no injuries.
Kumar said prior to going for coverage in Sameli, he informed SP Dantewada who gave his nod and assured that security will be provided.
Dantewada district police chief Abhishek Pallav could not be reached as he rushed to the spot after the tragic incident.
At the same time a team of Doordarshan went for election related coverage in the area. When the police force was close to the village, the Maoists started firing on the police force. Two policemen and cameraman died in this incident. Two policemen were injured there. He informed that after the firing of the Maoists, the police team also responded, after some time Naxalites escaped from there. After getting information about the incident, senior police officials of the district left for the incident and the additional police team has been evacuated from the camp of security force in Samaili. In the area, the CRPF, DRG and STF parties have begun action against the Maoists. Officials said the injured jawans and bodies were taken out of the scene. The injured have been admitted to Dantewada Hospital.
In Naxal-affected Bijapur district of the state, the Maoists had blown a bullet proof bunker on 27th of this month by landmine. Four soldiers of CRPF’s 168th battalion were martyred in this incident. On 28th, the Maoists had seriously injured District Committee member and BJP leader Nandlal Muradiyami in Palarar village of Dantewada district. There are two phases in the Chhattisgarh assembly elections to be held.
